To add a YouTube video, just paste the YouTube link in your post, and the video will be added at the top.

For the video to be parsed, the length of the post must be less than 1,000 characters. The character limit is in place to keep the forum from lagging or crashing on long posts.

The YouTube bbcode was replaced last night with the more intelligent parser, and although I ran tests, it is still possible that you may encounter problems. If you do, reply to this thread and I'll look into it.

The youtube video parser has been updated. With the change, the 1000 character limit has been removed.

The way the site is displayed changes based on the size of your screen. The mobile version started at <= 720px. I changed it to <= 600px. So, as long as your device width > 600px you will see the standard layout.

You can test this by sizing your browser down, and when you hit the 600px threshold the site will automatically switch to the mobile view.

Benchmarks of this site show that it can handle around 200 active posters at any given time. The problem with the benchmarks is that they were done in a controlled environment with all connections originating from the server that hosts this forum. In reality, the true number of max concurrent connections may be slightly lower when you account for the latency of network traffic keeping connections alive for longer than local connections.

As this site gets more traffic, let me know if you have any issues with performance. I have another host lined up that can handle more capacity, ~1000 concurrent connections, and I am ready to make the switch when it is needed.

This forum and dotorg cannot BOTH be jumping forums. One will be a pity-visit or a boredom visit when the other is slow.

Which one would YOU, PERSONALLY, like to see be the jumping forum? I pick this one, because david's forum sucks. What would it take for YOU to join me, and to be one of the first to change the momentum? What do you need to hear, to see, to join the revolution against david's mendacity and mediocrity?

I only have one problem.
I keep getting error messages here when I try to make or edit a post.
Not every time, but often enough to be annoying.
I can't figure out why or what to do about it.

I'll be replacing the standard error page you got tonight with one that will email me the details of the error and reload the page after a couple seconds so you can continue on without interruption.

I know this has been an issue for you since day 1 so there might be something wonky in your profile, but whatever it is, I'll track it down.

If anyone else has similar issues, let me know.

Quote feature sucks here.

The board is the people, don't matter where it is.

.org has taken a hit with all the outage, and not enough folks have come by here yet.

What sucks about it? The nested quotes?

I will disable nested quotes by default and make it an option that you can turn on in your profile.. I'll keep you posted

The forum will automatically remove the nested quotes when you submit the post, but you will see them in the edit post box.. let me know how it works out for you..

If you need more room to post a message, you can click the full screen icon

I will work on a user specific config to allow for users to override the removal of nested quotes via a profile setting.

You can leave it how you prefer it, it was only when I had to delete text from within the nested quotes that it annoyed me. Now how do I stop getting emails every time I get quoted? Notification is already turned off.

I never liked the nested quotes either..

I added the email feature a couple of days ago and I didn't test it very much.. I've turned it off until I have a chance to do more testing..

The emails are sent out in batch. Is it possible that the emails were for quotes that were made before you turned off the feature, but were already queued?

GW has been extremely quick in responding to every critique I have made of the place. As a result, it has a LOT more of the functions of the other site than it did last week. I'm sure he'll notice your post soon and get to the bottom of it. He definitely has the moves, PERSONALLY, so he's not helpless like david. If you have any OTHER critiqus, make em. He has moves, I tell ya.

The time is now.

I'm with Misty. Did he fix the "too many quotes" error? Whenever I get that, I'm never sure what part to cut to make the error go away. I usually end up without a quote at all.

Yes, the too many quotes error is fixed..

as a compromise, it will allow you to quote 4 levels deep and strip any quotes past that until I can add an override in the user profile

What did you do? Why do your posts have to be approved? I will talk to GW for you, if you are sincere about chillin on whatever you were doing...

As I posted in another thread, I modded the board so it doesn't track ip addresses. If I need an ip I can get it from the server logs, but no one, not even myself, can get your ip from this forum.

From reading the thread, on .org, they say you we're threatening an all night spam attack on the board.

FYI - I could care less about threats. If anyone attempts any sort of attack on the board, you'd better hope you're in the Ukraine, China, or some other country far far away from the clutches of federal authorities, otherwise they will come aknocking. I won't even have to make the call. The host will sniff it out in seconds, block the originating ip(s) and pick up the red phone.

As for posting personal information, that will not be tolerated here, not by members, and certainly not by moderators.
