Large businesses only employ about 38 percent of the private sector workforce while small businesses employ 53 percent of the workforce. In fact, over 99 percent of employing organizations are small businesses and more than 95 percent of these businesses have fewer than 10 employees.

Giant corporations, like walmart, have been destroying small businesses for decades with the help of government legislation...locally and nationally.

In 2013, walmart had a net operating income of $27 BILLION.  They could have afforded to pay their lowest 1 million workers an additional $10,000 that year and still had a net operating income of $17 BILLION.

I do not darken walmarts doors!!!

And not only them, but how many millions of people couldn't realize their dream of attending college because of the hardship the cost and/or the loans would have demanded on their future income?

This is no different than this ******* fraudulent "president" did on the southern border, ushering in MILLIONS of illegals and paying them a fortune FROM TAXPAYER FUNDS, giving them preferential treatment over those who have been waiting YEARS for the opportunity to emigrate here LEGALLY!  Just as this socialist isn't going to benefit from that policy, but from this new one too, simply because of the MILLIONS of taxpayers who were honorable enough to repay their loans by themselves or with help from their family, ALL WHO MUST NOW BE INDEBTED TO THOSE DEADBEATS WHO DIDN'T PAY THEIR DEBT!

This **** will cost Democrats the votes of MILLIONS, assuming this demented idiot can even get it passed the courts where it should easily be found to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL!  Congress AND CONGRESS ALONE HAS THE POWER OF THE PURSE!  So how does THIS **** moron think he has the right to put a $300 billion dollar debt on the *** of taxpayers unilaterally?!??!

That is actually not quite accurate.

You have to account for the energy SPENT on those panels - producing; installing; maintaining. And depending how you cypher, break even can be at the end of a VERY long tunnel - especially if you count the carbon emitted by obtaining the rare earth minerals. And that is not just the mining and transport, either. Ya gotta count the bombs dropped to steal the resources.

If you start factoring in all the people murdered for those minerals, the math gets really complex.

It costs the same. Actually, the oligarchs hold onto a couple of hundred billion more.
Are those the only two options?

The pertinent questions regarding paying student debt are, first, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? How is it remotely possible that it costs so much for an education - or getting one pays so little dividends - that the debt from that education is impossible to pay? And what are we going to DO, to avoid this embarrassment to our system of higher education in the future? How will we reform higher education so that this becomes a one-off, rather than a regular thing?

And please - be very careful advocating for universal higher education, because every nation that provides that has rigorous testing and rigorous admittance standards - annual boards, the failure of which ends one's matriculation and gives one a ticket to trade school. And those countries have zero affirmative action. So if you want the one, you have to lose the other. You ready for that? It would mean a lot fewer blacks and latinos and a lot more whites and asians in the better schools.

Just throwing cash at the problem is not an answer - it's a cop out; a bandaid; a sop. It is corporate welfare to the schools who SHOULD return the **** money, if it really was taken under fraud, as appears to be the case. I think another possible appropriate solution to the problem is a class action lawsuit to get the fake universities to refund the cost of the fake degrees. Absent that solution, any bailout should be tied to reform. If the taxpayers are to be on the hook, then their servants owe them reassurance that this is not going to happen AGAIN.

So along with the question of WHETHER we should, we have to ask the question of why and how.

Hoping to avoid blackouts, the California Independent System Operator, which manages the state’s power grid, warned Tuesday that it probably will issue a series of Flex Alerts over the next several days. Flex Alerts are voluntary calls for conservation during the afternoon and evening hours, when energy use tends to soar. Residents will be asked to turn up their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using dishwashers or other large appliances, and hold off on charging their electric vehicles, all during the 4-9 p.m. time frame.

The debate between the official NBER determination of a recession and the 2Qs approach has been endlessly discussed. Rather than spill more pixels on this, I will instead direct you to the Menzie Chin chart above (hat tip Invictus). You can see why the NBER does not rely on GDP (pink line) alone; GDP was slightly negative, while Manufacturing and Trade Sales were more negative. But then NFP was very strong, as was Industrial production, Civilian employment, Consumption, and Personal income.

It is difficult to look at these 6 (or 7) data points honestly and draw the conclusion that the nation’s economic activity in the first half shrunk. You can track all of these data points on FRED, as explained by this blog post.

This is the reason why a $20 trillion, complex global economy with so many different moving parts cannot rely on an oversimplified and dumbed down definition1 — like two consecutive quarters of negative GDP

socialism, at its most basic, is simply sharing.  A family unit is socialist, unless you make the kids pay rent to the parents when they are toddlers.

Families are socialist within their own households.  They share a roof, they share expenses.  Extended families can be extremely socialist as well, as shown by communities like Mennonite and Amish villages.  This is where race comes into the equation.

All members of a race can be thought of as distant relatives, but cross racially, not so much.  Naziism, (National socialism) means extending socialist policies toward an entire state, and keeping that state racially pure, so that citizens can be unified in efforts and achieve great things.

The modern version of U.S. socialism, where socialist programs are applied across all sorts of racial and cultural barriers, is dysfunctional.  Individualism is incompatible with socialism, Hence our inability to build anything anymore, or have any kind of cooperation (collectivism).

In nations where there is racial homogeneity, socialism works fine.  That is why Japan has universal health care and we don’t.

When you throw a blanket on all socialism and say it all sucks, you are actually saying that any and all cooperation among humans is terrible.  By your logic, we should have never built the interstate highway system or put a man on the moon.
