Seems to me this is a "no brainer."  Imo, people with pronounced psychiatric issues should always be addressed by those trained in mental health issues.  Thoughts?

Agree RR. In many Northern European jurisdictions, police officers spend years learning the complexities of dealing with mental illness. Their core objective is to de-escalate and protect people from harm until appropriately trained professionals can respond. 

Sometimes it seems as if cops here are trained to do exactly the opposite. Too often they escalate violence unnecessarily. We’ve seen far too many instances of it lately. Everything from the killing of George Floyd to the coordinated assaults on peaceful protestors. 

Time to study Camden, NJ and Europe. Find out what works and what doesn’t work.  Replace the tough guy/military mentality with a community service mentality.

Here is my argument:

A liberal is a fellow who stands against the lynch mob - never one who joins it. A liberal judges people by the content of their character - not the color of their skin. A liberal intuitively refuses to subscribe to the notion of corrupted blood, never holding a man responsible for what that man's great grandfather might or might not have done.

A liberal steadfastly refuses to generalize or paint with a broad brush - no liberal has ever used the name Karen or the word Boomer as an insult, because liberals react to people as individuals, not as representatives of this or that group. Judging a human being based on group identity is anathema to a liberal. Liberals seek the greatest good for the greatest number, never putting a few hundred stake holders' interests over tens of thousands, or a million over a hundred millions.

Liberals judge ideas on their merits, and not by who uttered them. Just because a woman said it, that doesn't make it less true or less serious, to a liberal. Likewise, just because a person of color said it, or just because a conservative white heterosexual said it. It is the IDEA which a liberal judges - not the source.

Liberals work to bring the peace, to bring conciliation. Liberals seek compromise - though not at the expense of principles. Liberals look for common ground with their opponents, and value the many legitimate positions that their opponents have, listening respectfully and with an open mind to opposing views. Liberals are the very last to engage in shouting down or censoring.

Liberals are a rare and disappearing breed. Someday, I would like to meet one.

As to equality, I belong to a nation which has spent three generations giving preferential hiring, college placement and procurement contracts to minorities - based on the color of their skin. I have been unable to find resources on the timeline for US mortality/excess deaths. Wikipedia only shows a chart based on excess mortality from Chile, so we can use that as a proxy (as the outbreak was far deadlier in South America compared to North America).



Excess mortality spike lasted from July 1957 to January 1958 - 6 months time.

The time is actually not as relevant as you think because the total number of deaths follows a logistic, not an exponential, curve. As time progresses, the total # of deaths will sizzle out, unless a "second wave" comes (which it will, whether we lockdown or not - and if anything, I would argue the inability of the lockdown to prevent a "second wave" is actually strong evidence against the lockdown itself).

Unfortunately, as your typical American is very math-impaired, he or she probably googled "exponential function" without truly understanding the 10th grade math behind it, and then posted hysterically all over social media about how "5 billion ppl are going to be infected and 100 million dead!" with silly charts if we didn't do everything the Karens demanded.

This is another point, which I predicted you would make, that has made you an unwitting supporter of Wall Street's agenda, which I hope you will re-evaluate in light of everything that's happened (given that you are clearly a Bernie Sanders supporter, I doubt you are a big fan of Wall Street).

The "economy" is not just Wall St's earning reports (which are largely fabricated anyway with non-GAAP numbers - thank the SEC for standing by and letting Wall St criminals loose), Goldman Sachs/other banks front-running Treasury bonds...it is every transaction that enables ordinary people to make a living.

When you tell people living paycheck to paycheck that they CANNOT go and earn $$$ to support themselves, you are aiding in the working class' destruction. You are also allowing Wall Street to impoverish Main Street small businesses, many of which have already gone bankrupt and will no longer serve as competition to Wall Street economic gangsters.

Now I can already see some objections you will raise, and I will address them now:

True, but that's not going to last forever. Since I am not a "libertarian" or "conservative," I don't object to cash transfers (under certain circumstances when people actually need them), but I will tell you, as anyone who understands basic economics does, that this is supposed to be TEMPORARY. It cannot last forever, unless you want the price of staples to skyrocket 500%.

Sooner or later, people will go back to work when what meager savings or government transfers they have dries up...and...the virus will circulate again.

2. "It's not the working class' fault that they live paycheck to paycheck. It's the system's fault."

OK, so how is shutting down the economy going to help?

It doesn't matter whether you live in a capitalist or socialist system, someone needs to do the labor, or the goods/services won't exist.

A shortage of goods/services is not going to help the working class - in fact, a shortage means only the RICH can afford to pay for those higher prices.

Thank you, But what makes my discussions unique is I describe life without if reinterpreting the past so far and the triangulating could, would, should governing human emotions from now on through trained context and believing life originated anywhere else but the moment sustaining the universe perpetually balancing between did exist, is existing, does continue or not duplicated again per lifetime, ancestral part of the food chain, planet, solar system, galaxy of solar systems.

I see living as how it never exceeds reproductions being timed apart now. My instincts can follow any detail back to why and how is became what it is as eternally timed apart so far. That goes for ancestral progression to lifetime present regardless plant, animal, predator, prey, asexual, male, female means of reproduciton making something that never existed before into something never duplicated again.

Everyone agrees life works in cycles, reproductive cycles timed apart while spontaneously here per universal point of being actively displaced inorganically and ancestrally within one atmosphere per each lifetime in each species actively reproducing even becoming extinct, occupying space, inception of a new variety or species from now on, which is only while reproductions are present.

Compounding simplicity of details constructs between what erodes and what decomposes by decay, fire, ingestion. Personal experience of everything I do is never what I have done so far. I add that to everyone else exists the same way separate DNA timed apart now.

I went whale watching, aside from riding the lava fields, and swimming in the Blue Lagoon. (Heaven on earth)

It's surreal, isn't it.  We spent two weeks just hopping from town to town and wandering around the landscape - being following around by Icelandic ponies, like huge round friendly dogs.

We were there in October, so it was nice and cold - and after a day of sightseeing in Reykjavik we would go to the public pools.   Beautiful, gleaming building, swooping Nordic architecture, interior like the nicest private healthclub you've ever been to. Outside, an Olympic sized pool, heated just enough not to freeze you, a huge jacuzzi, and four hot tubs.  The real, original hot tubs - holes in the cement with increasing heat levels. I only ever made it to tub three.  LOL.
Keep in mind that this was nighttime in October, often snowing, so COLD.  You positively SPRINT from the building to the tubs, but after you soak for a  while, you climb out, steaming like a pudding, feeling toasty and warm, and you STROLL back, with snow falling on you.
I had gotten bronchitis the day we arrived, but two days in those tubs and it was gone.

I'm surprised to hear that - I never duck a question, unlike the panty dancers who snipe at me from cover. Not ducking questions has been, IMO, a motif and a point of pride with me. "slippery" is probably the most insulting thing I have been called on this board, from my perspective - though I am not suggesting the slight was dishonest on your part, or intentional. Just surprising.

Do you consider overpopulation and /or pollution a problem to be reckoned with or not? I honestly cant tell from your posts here.

Over population might be a problem - have to reach 30 billion or so people to find out. So far, every population benchmark we have hit that was supposed to be a tipping point has been breezed past with HIGHER standards of living and LONGER life spans, new technologies having obviated the predicted tipping point crises. In my experience, tomorrow tends to look like today, which looks like yesterday. So whatever the next population tipping point is - I no longer pay attention, you understand, - I pffft in the general direction of. The fossil layer is ever in the making on this mighty hopper of a planet - we are not going to deplete it as we and everything we make are nothing more than an extremely temporary part of it and are being recycled within it as we speak.

Pollution MIGHT be a problem we can agree on, unless you insist on foolishly rolling atmospheric carbon into the definition of pollution. I don't consider rabbit pellets, bird seed, plankton, atmospheric carbon, krill, potatoes or other food stuffs to be pollution. Sorry about that.

In my lifetime we beat smog, acid rain and rivers on fire - so I certainly recognize that pollution can be an issue. Each of those pollution issues were large but localized problems. L.A.'s smog - which we put to route with cafe standards and unleaded gas, yay us - never hurt Topeka. And today's pollution is mostly a problem local to China, the USA having long ago developed technologies to clean it up, developed technologies to avoid it, and developed legal standards to prevent/deal with it.

Where we have a problem that appears international in scope is the big plastic dump in the pacific - and it is being tackled as we speak:

Which brings us to the real issue. This country won't be a country ten years from now. It'll be a fractured group of states and regions in survival mode, headed up by strong men. Pollution and over population will be the farthest thing from our minds. The queers and trannies will not be lobbying for toilet legislation, and he ****** won't be blaming whitey for their chronic under performance - they'll be focused, with the rest of us, on survival issues.

The USA is being treated as a disposable lighter. For example, I'm instructed that the vast underground aquifers beneath California's central valley have been deliberately - and most unnecessarily - pumped dry and caused to collapse - a deliberate and willful act of nihilist sabotage by that state's "leaders," who had a two billion dollar desalination plant off the coast of Santa Barbara sitting idle. When one sees writing such as that on the wall, one is given fair warning that "the end is near."

Want to tackle pollution? Turn it into food. EVERYTHING is edible by something. Too many zebras? Release some lions. Too many foxes? Release the hounds. Too many injuns? Kill the buffalo. It's eat or be eaten - and we need to feed pollution to something.

Want to tackle pollution like a boss? End war. And that means end the USA, as it - uniquely - relies on war and plunder for its livelihood. You aren't going to need to worry about over population or pollution for much longer - you aren't going to have time, IMO. We are going to pay the piper, right soon. The stimulus checks will stop. The imports will, too.

I could be wrong about our impending demise. I'm not wrong about pollution. Or about "over" population - a time-tested and history-rebuked canard. Where there is a will, there is a way. Getting rid of humans is the stupidest **** way that a HUMAN could ever suggest.

That is a somewhat crude and hateful assessment, but not wrong I guess.  If you are into accelerationism these are Heady times to live in.  Me, I just hunker in my bunker and think about death a lot.  I never used to contemplate my own death before 2020, now I think about it every day.  What’s going to get me?  Covid?  A violent mob?  A cop that I look at sideways on a bad day?  The giant tidal wave of homelessness that is surely about to flood the streets as all the eviction protection runs out?

I was born in 1974, and I heard tell about scary times in the US from the 1960s, with the Cuban missile crisis and the regular racial rioting and civil unrest in US cities.  I heard it was downright terrifying at times.  I never could relate, because I led a charmed life, the son of a business owner in Michigan, with a fair to middling middle class upbringing.  I never had a day of existential fear for the fate of this whole country.  Never has it felt like a social experiment that could go sideways like Nazi Germany or a Bolshevik revolution.  Until this year, that is.
