You stupid ****.  The reason why the death penalty is wrong is because we have a competitive legal system, and not a justice system.  Any justice dealt out, particularly in criminal cases, is completely incidental.  The rugged individualism philosophy rules where the philosophy should be humanity providing justice that is not linked to money.  Justice can't be about winning, and what our legal system is all about is one guy's attorney beating the other guy's attorney.  Justice is an afterthought.  Not good when somebody's life is at stake.

no, stupid ****. the idea, correct or incorrect (and i think it is incorrect)...is that the conflict between lawyers in our justice system will make it more likely that justice is served. Justice IS the intended outcome, and you are strawmanning liberalism

im telling you that it is the idea, i am not even insisting that it works. But if you want to argue with the system by misrepresenting it, then you are just being dishonest.

Justice may be the intended outcome or it may not.  But we're talking about the death penalty, and it's not a system where there should be a death penalty, *** wipe.  Remember the Innocence Project?  How many hundreds of those convicted of violent crimes where it was determined, mostly by DNA evidence, to have been impossible for them to have done the crime?

Arizona Reverts To More-Entertaining/White-Trash Roots
June 1, 2021
.
"Arizona is taking steps to use hydrogen cyanide, the deadly gas used during the genocide perpetrated by the Nazis at Auschwitz and other extermination camps, to kill inmates on death row.
.
Critics of the gas method say that in addition to hydrogen cyanide’s infamous use in the mass killings of Jewish people by the Nazis, it has produced some of the most botched, disturbing executions in the United States."

DNA From Murder Weapon Points To Someone Else
May 4, 2021
.
"Ledell Lee was executed for murder in a flurry of lethal injections that divided the Supreme Court and proceeded, despite lawyers’ calls for DNA testing.
.
“No one should be executed when there is a possibility that person is innocent,” attorney Nina Morrison said in April 2017, just after Lee — convicted in the 1990s — became the first person put to death in Arkansas in more than a decade. The state drew national scrutiny for moving aggressively through capital cases before one of its drugs used in executions expired..

Four years later, attorneys say genetic material from the murder weapon in Lee’s case points to someone else."

And to the OP...pot's not legal.  It is still considered a control substance on the federal level and state laws cannot contradict federal law.   All those state laws are unconstitutional...nobody has bothered to challenge them (yet).
The Obama Adminstration's Eric Holder went after dispensaries and growers relentlessly.

Back when he was running for president in 2008, Barack Obama insisted that medical marijuana was an issue best left to state and local governments. “I’m not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue,” he vowed, promising an end to the Bush administration’s high-profile raids on providers of medical pot, which is legal in 16 states and the District of Columbia. But over the past year, the Obama administration has quietly unleashed a multiagency crackdown on medical cannabis that goes far beyond anything undertaken by George W. Bush. The feds are busting growers who operate in full compliance with state laws, vowing to seize the property of anyone who dares to even rent to legal pot dispensaries, and threatening to imprison state employees responsible for regulating medical marijuana. With more than 100 raids on pot dispensaries during his first three years, Obama is now on pace to exceed Bush’s record for medical-marijuana busts. “There’s no question that Obama’s the worst president on medical marijuana,” says Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project. “He’s gone from first to worst.”

Hell.....I've still got my '72 / ol' timey newspaper-format edition, with Cooper.

The Stone is where I first read Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
.
"Rolling Stone sent Thompson back to Vegas to expand the piece, reporting on the National District Attorneys Association’s Conference on Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. The results were hilarious and electrifying. “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” ran in two parts, in the issues of November 11th and 25th, 1971, with illustrations by Ralph Steadman, and was published in book form the next year."
