Sweden and Finland were never part of the USSR. Joining nato would serve Putin's propaganda purposes but wouldn't result in an invasion. It would result in the annexation of Ukraine and installation of Russian hypersonic nuclear weapons in western Ukraine.  Nothing good can come from expanding nato.

Finland has a very long border with Russia.

The Russians are not communists and have not been communists since 1991.

I think the odds are that Sweden and Finland (who have been allies for a century) will join NATO.
It benefits both NATO and these two countries.

Finland has many Swedish speaking citizens
Sweden has many Finnish speaking citizens.
Both have many Sami, or Laplanders.

Any war against Russia will go nuclear in days if not hours. Since WWII Russian controlled territory has been reduced in size by 3/4ths. Nato, uncoincidentally, has expanded more than that in the same period. Tell me about communist expansion again?

That being 6.6 million square miles.
