After the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that e-cigarettes are “poisoning” children, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Thursday that it’s “pushing very hard” to create a rule to monitor vaping devices in light of emerging health concerns.
FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg in particular told senators at a Congressional budget hearing that the FDA will be creating a proposal that will be ready for release “very soon.” The proposal first must be assessed by the White House’s Office of Management and Budget; however, according to
NBC News, the OMB has been reviewing the proposal for nearly five months.
Hamburg’s statement comes after prodding by public health advocates and legislators who labeled the FDA’s delays as “disgraceful.” Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon said that the makers of e-cigarettes have a tendency to target young people through sweet-flavored vaping devices and strawberry-flavored cigars, in an “insidious strategy to addict our children to nicotine.”
Though e-cigarettes do contain nicotine, they contain far less of the harmful toxins found in traditional cigarette smoke. However, research has shown that potential contaminants in vaping smoke could have adverse effects on those who inhale them. Public health advocates have argued that e-cigarettes are a gateway drug of sorts to actual tobacco smoking.
The CDC report showed that about half of the calls to poison centers around the U.S. had to do with children under the age of 5, who had been playing with e-cigarettes and been exposed to the nicotine liquid. Since 2010, when there was only one call per month to poison centers involving e-cigarette liquid, rates have jumped up to 215 calls per month in February 2014.

“This report raises another red flag about e-cigarettes — the liquid nicotine used in e-cigarettes can be hazardous,” Dr. Tom Frieden, CDC director, said in a statement. Additionally, kids who aren’t addicted to nicotine could find themselves becoming addicted through the use of sweet-flavored e-cigs that otherwise seem harmless.
In the meantime, while the e-cigarette debate rolls on, the FDA pledges to push the rule forward to help curb any hazardous events or long-term consequences of vaping. “I do believe that very soon I will be able to call you, and say the deeming rule is out,” Hamburg said in respose to Senator Merkley's prodding.

The canard about 215 calls to the CDC regarding vaping fluid is being repeated all over the corporate media. All 215 calls traced back to RJ Reynolds. And I can prove that - or at least, you should assume that I can, rather than assume the number is accurate, representative and honest, given the billions at stake for big tobacco.

As an ecig business owner for the past three years and one who has been a customer of the industry is its amazing to see just how much power that big tobacco has. After the first generation e-cigs were shown to help smokers quit at rates three or four times better than any drug, patch available on the market. This created an unholy union arrayed against the fledgling, predominately mom and pop, ecig cottage industry. The FDA tried to ban ecigs as drug delievery devices, while big tobacco tried to convince people that switching from their cancer sticks to inhaling radiator fluid was stupid idea. They spent millions on a disinformation campaign. Big pharma is also a player trying, with the FDA, to label ecigarettes as drug delivery devices and subject them to huge taxes and required them complete millions of dollars worth of blind and double blind tests to prove effectiveness.

This is not the way capatilizm is supposed to work. A superior product, a better mouse trap, is being attacked and buried by the lethal tobacco industry and government agencies allegedly functioning in the publics best interest. Now that ecigs are here to stay big tobbaco have entered into the market place with inferior hardware. They have purchased some of the more experienced small juice production businesses. Their next move is "THINK OF THE CHILDREN". They are moving to ban online sales, ensuring that gas stations and wall mart are the places people can buy their inferior product. A product I believe is delibrately designed to provide a inferior experience to lower the conversion rate of smokers to vapers.

Of course the proposed regulations are not capitalism, or anything close to it. Neither do they have anything to do with Limbaugh. CPs claims are ridiculous.

This is more jack booted thuggery from Obama's big government. We've seen the same thuggish tactics from Obama's FDA, and EPA during his entire presidency so far. And we'll likely see a lot more.. And you voted twice for this. CP. So suck it up!

I wouldn't exactly say that, but as a non-smoker, I would rather have common sense reign. ecigs are for ***. ;)
Actual adults have been forced to choose this "alternative" for various reasons. Many (probably most) would rather be left alone to smoke. Sure, make a smoking section and let it go at that. The proprietor/owner should ban at his own risk of losing business. That worked for lots of years. What crying game changed all that? Oh well, if smokers had the lung capacity to speak up, maybe they would have fought back more.
Now indoor smoking is gone. Only the dregs of society stand in uncomfortable surroundings to really smoke next to the exits.

So... Bring on the child's toys. Make them match the cell phone. Put stickers on them.

Have an O'Douls on me. :)

Of course they should listen to their teachers. As a parent, why would you send your kids to school and instruct them to ignore their teachers? That is retarded. Politics are fine until you have retarded, illiterate children, just so you can call yourself a good conjob.
