It's too hard to judge Reagan's economy, unless we can agree on how to account for the fact that it has never been paid for - account for the fact that it set a new direction of borrow and spend, run up the debt, spend like Jesus is gonna fix it. It was a James Watt style presidency. How do we separate out how nice the dinner tasted from the fact that it STILL has never been paid for?

HOW DO WE CALL IT REAGAN'S ECONOMY, IF THE PEOPLE TASKED TO PAY FOR IT WERE NOT EVEN BORN YET? WASN'T IT THEIR ECONOMY, IF THEY ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR IT?
It is funny that my kid's kids are at fault for the Bammycare debacle, my doctor of 20 years retiring early, old people lubing up for a final ****.

The longest time to maturity of bonds during Reagan's presidency was 11 years. He's been out of office for 25 years. I think the money he borrowed has been paid back.
Lol.

Well, with MORE borrowed money, because of reaganomics, which is still in full force.

Hell, son, you're making me feel downright responsible about MY rolled over debts!

1. I'm not allowed to speak my mind about your kids.
2. Doctor's have every right to determine when they'll retire - I reserve judgement.
3. You would have seniors dry-****? You're a monster.
4. Let's talk about Carter v. Reagan for a minute.

I request that we just quietly welcome Clem back into the fold, with no ado about his previous humiliations in this thread and others.

I hope everyone will go along.

Revenues rose by 28% in five years, moonbat.

So where's the missing money?

Never mind that revenues average roughly 18% of GDP no matter what the rates have been, given all the loopholes.

Carter ran our economy into the ground. He inherited a booming economy and drove it into the ground:
1976 5.4%
1977 4.6%
1978 5.6%
1979 3.2%
1980 -0.2%
Fed raised rate to 20%. GDP dropped 7.9% in Q2. Fed lowered rate to 10% by August to boost economy, then raised it to 20% to fight 12.5% inflation. Iran oil embargo.

Carter's Presidency is best summed up in two words: Misery Index.
But luckily for Carter, no one calls him the Worst President Ever anymore. Not since Obama.

I guess you don't understand trajectory. As I said, Carter was handed an economy growing at over 5%, and drove it into the ground, leaving with it at a -0.2%
I know math is hard for you publicly educated liberals. I apologize if this is difficult for you to understand.

I've already won this thread. Cannon never did quantify real growth vs Reagan growth.

I respectfully reccomend this thread be locked.

This thread has provided great theater. Truly fun read. But I think we should look at some facts.

Reagan was by no measure a fiscal conservative or a small government president. Hell, My taxes are still paying off the avalanche of debt he created. Reagan was directly responsible for the S&L scandal by "fixing" the Tax code. Reagan was responsible for empowering our enemies by allowing the negotiation with Iran's kidnappers.

Furthermore, No president has direct control over the economy, otherwise it would be Communism. The president should only count jobs that were created in the public sector.

I blame him for derailing our government down a path of big spending and eternal deficit.

BTW, Did you know that Reagan's administration spent 250 thousand dollars in an effort to prove how pornography was destroying America? And they picked out the the biggest kook they could find to do the job? And when it was published, Nobody in the Whitehouse even read the damn thing?

Carter signed into law the CRA. He started ALL the **** you might blame the next presidents for including Bammy.
He didn't sign it with malice prepense but consequences give us 20/20 hindsight.

Worst president ever. Well, maybe not now...
