My guess would be that the agency which SUBPOENAED those emails RIGHTLY shared them (not "leaked" them) with the press.

I'm with you. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Christie's top aides that HE hired orchestrated the lane closures to punish a politician for not endorsing Christie. That much is clear from the emails.

One school of thought is that they did so on his orders, and contributed to Granny's death.. Another is that he appointed people who acted criminally without his consent, and contributed to Granny's death. If you wish to give Christie the benefit of the doubt, that puts you category two.

How beneficial is that? I don;t see a political future for him under EITHER scenario - and I challenge you to provide another. Go ahead. Benefit Humpty Dumpty with a third explanation of events. :)

Third explanation, hot-muzzled weapon: these "emails" appear to have been patched together by someone with a rudimentary knowledge of Photoshop. Where are the names of who released the emails, rightly, in your opinion? Why has no one stepped forward to claim the credit? Could it be that whoever did is waiting to see if these allegations actually destroy Christie?

That third explanation does not jibe with port authority appointees resigning and taking the fifth - or the author of the original email resigning and disappearing from public view. You're jumping on a train that already left the station.

I will remain skeptical. If those images are screenshots of the emails, they look contrived to me.

What is there, specifically, to be "skeptical" about? Did the head of the port authority resign and take the fifth over contrived emails? Did Christie's top aid resign over such?

I don't understand what "skeptical" even means in this context. Please, tell me: skeptical about WHAT, precisely?

Firstly, the gmail/yahoo addresses. Unless these aides were complete idiots, I doubt they would have used personal emails on known open servers.
Secondly, look at the screenshots. They just look fake. At least to me.

I can concede Christie's guilt. The emails make me leery, is all.

The emails are verified and substantiated, period. That train left the station when those people resigned and the first one took the fifth.

They looked hinky to you - okay, fine. But that issue has been settled. The same is true of the email addresses. All of your concerns have been answered in spades by the behaviors of the guilty.

Not really, but we'll go in circles on this one bc I'm not willing to concede this last point.

I'm back to not understanding what it is you won't concede? What last point? Do you deny the alleged authors of the emails resigned? I can get you links. Do you deny the port authority chief took the fifth? I can provide video.

There is no question they authored the emails: They do not deny it, and they resigned. That's confirmation. So what exactly do you not concede?

Perhaps, but it's more likely a Dim. I doubt there are many TEA Party people working in/for Christie.
But in Jersey? Dimocrats infect every corner of that State.

Personally, I think Christie is an ass, and he probably was behind this 100%.
But I see no difference between them closing a traffic lane, and how Obama closed all the National Parks and Monuments during the government shutdown.
Politicians use the citizens as pawns in their game of power. Why is anyone surprised?

I damned Obama for that. LOUDLY. On these boards.

I damned him MUCH more loudly than I damn Christie. I give a shit about Jersey. But in my OPINION, the fat man is toast behind this.

You need to realize two things: What Obama did, he did as a LAME DUCK. And the other thing is this: What Christie did, MADE him a lame duck. He's done.

Yea the point was as I had originally said, "Pretty sure you can't use FOIA to get personal emails and text msgs."

How much weed you smoke a day?

Pretty sure people don't resign over easily disproved emails.

What is your contention - that these emails that even Christie acknowledges as real somehow are not?

Seems the conservative brain is wired to deny reality by cooking up new conspiracy theories, without limit!

Yup. He admits it, his defenders refuse. Pretty sad.

Does lack of denial mean immediate guilt?

Lack of denial means acknowledgement of the validity of the emails. So does resigning over the emails. So does pleading the fifth over the emails.

Yes. It means all of that. Guilt is a question for a jury. The rest of it? Not so much.

This is as close as I can get, regarding the release. Our press is run by drunks and hacks. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure their job is to protect their sources, so "Who leaked the emails" is not something they have a duty to disclose.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/01/08/i ... or-a-liar/

The man who led an investigation into the George Washington Bridge lane closures said on Wednesday that recently published emails proved that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) either did not know what was going on in his own office or was lying to the public.

Emails released on Wednesday added to suspicions that mid-September lane closures on the George Washington Bridge were political retribution against Democratic Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, who endorsed Christie’s opponent in the 2012 gubernatorial race.

Don't use government property to send incriminating emails. As for private emails... If the email address is used for public business its fair game. So yes, an foia could have been used.

And WAS used, according to news reports. Where my barrister pulled any contrary claim from is anyone's guess - and MY guess is: HIS ASS!

The documents were released by David Wildstein, who turned them over under a subpoena from Democratic legislators investigating the lane closings.

And that should answer the question of who leaked them to the press.

Nevermind. :)
